El Cid Marina Beach Hotel in Mazatlan

Many visitors know about the bigger El Cid properties, but a best-kept secret is the El Cid Marina (see Hoteles in Mazatlan), a smaller El Cid with picturesque boat docks at the edge of the ocean and a cozier feel that is less overwhelming than its siblings but still offers all of the great El Cid amenities — such as the groovy pools with giant, climbable rocks kids can jump from and constant family-friendly activities, as well as things such as yoga and bingo (a newsletter is stuck under the door each morning).

A 1-minute ferry ride takes you to the beach, and a free shuttle goes back and forth constantly around the El Cids (the others are closer to the Golden Zone) so that if you are tired of the restaurants or pools at one you can try the others. Rates start at $106 per night for a junior suite that includes one bedroom, living room and a kitchenette.

This small, intimate, hotel offers guests a very personalized service and a true feeling of tranquility, with its peaceful courtyard and charming decor. All rooms feature a flat-screen TV, DVD player, telephone, and wired high speed internet. You’ll also find a Mini Bar, and complimentary coffee and tea making facilities in the room. The beds and linens provide sumptous comfort and rest, while the colonial-style bathrooms and showers expertly blend original materials with the most modern facilities and top-of-the-range bathroom amenities.

Every first Sunday of the month, the hotel hosts a live classical or jazz music concert in the Old Chapel.  The owner and manager, Regina Cardenas, also arranges local tours the nearby villages, and she can put you in touch with local artists and purveyors of fine Talavera, the hard-wearing and beautifully-crafted ceramic material renowned and sought-after in this region.
